I have been making things AND explaining how to make things for as long as I can remember. I was all about DIY long before it was a popular term. I absolutely love the challenge of trying a new media or material to make something that didn’t exist before. Trying to categorize my “making” is quite difficult since I make so many things in so many different fields. And, I don’t let gender rule what type of things I can make. Actually, that gives me even more drive when someone says: “you CAN”T do that”! If I can get the material and supplies readily, and can lift them by myself, or run the tools needed, I’ll give it a go. Those who know me, know that I am quite stubborn… I’ll do it myself, and show you how you can DIY.
So here goes; (and not limited to) I make soap, lotion bars and lip balms, design and sew clothes, re-upholster, build furniture, chainsaw carve and other sculpting, concrete casting, needle and wet felting, work with leather, sprouting, cure meats, render my own tallow, design and garden(inside as well), cook and bake, and clean of course! I’m sure I left something off the list but have a look around and take a tour!
I am a Technical Illustrator by trade and have illustrated a few how-to books so I am well aware of how to give that helping hand. My life’s ambition is to inspire you, give you the courage to create something new and reassure you along the way. It is such a satisfying feeling, especially in today’s age of the “virtual” world. You will have something tactile to point to in pride and say, “yup, I made it” I have been teaching adults for almost 20 years so I know what it is like to see that look of “ear to ear smile of accomplishment”… theirs’ AND mine! I know all too well that most people just conclude that they are not good certain things. That, in my opinion is the number one stumbling block to overcome. The mind is a powerful thing, it can give you the drive and determination to fulfill an objective (move a mountain per se) or just as powerfully, wipe out any chance of that happening. I am the teacher, assistant, demonstrator, mentor, and plain-old coach. I’d like to take that small spark you have and help nurture it into what ever you like….
