What would You like on your Purse?

Can you help me? I have a Question… Over the last year I have been tossing an idea around in my mind. (Actually I toss a lot around in there but that’s another story…)

I am going to Up-cycle some beautiful purses and bags. They are quality brands that I have collected and restored.

My dream is to provide another life for these bags by painting designs on the. I hope they will be loved again and perhaps be even more cherished as art pieces. The illustrator/artist in me has been yearning to do a bit more painting lately. That spurred this idea; ‘Repurposed-Repursed‘.

RePurposed – RePursed:

Each one will be a one-of-a-kind art piece. I’ve done this often for my loved ones, but I knew what would make them smile (or sometimes cry)

Now my question is; what would you just love to see on your bag? This is a question of ‘Surface Design’, trends and images that are always well received.

Here’s some of what I’ve painted already to give you an idea of the possibilities;

Pets and Flowers are always sentimental but I want to be more unique.

Please comment below and let me know. I would really appreciate your feedback, who knows, maybe I’ll paint your idea!

I am hoping to pop them into my Etsy store or a local Artist Co-op Store.

  1. I like the abstract designs best – organic ones that enhance the natural look of the leather.

But I bet dog and cat pictures would sell best. Maybe emerging from the dark?

  2. Hi Barb,
On a purse with a flap, the outside looks like stone wall, or a grassy or treed (is that a word?) hillside with a stone, but when the flap is lifted it’s as if looking into a cave.

  3. Love the mid-century mod cats you painted on the shoes. They would be really cute peeking out from behind a flap or popping out of a pocket!

I”m a quilter, so I’d love to see some quilt block-inspired purses.

  4. Trees! I’m a sucker for an evergreen or a Japanese maple.
Flowers ❤️ Any. Cottage Garden types, wildflowers, Hawaiian.
I love that you continued the cat’s tail onto the pocket, and added a paw print. That makes it extra special and unique.
I love the detailed fur you have achieved on your pets. Their faces have such personality. Immediately makes you fall in love.

    1. Trees seem to be a winning fave! I also fell in love with wildflowers while making the cyanotypes as there are so many interesting shapes. In order to make the designs look planned and not just ‘stuck on’ I try to integrate according to the purse shape design.

  5. My two favorites are the close up cat in the very beginning of your photos and down a few more from there is a puppy. Those are my two favorites especially the close-up of the cat.

  6. First – I love everything that you have painted on these purses. I would love to see some nautical themes – sailboats, sunsets on the water, etc. Also equine/ horses, jumping, etc.
Thank you for asking for input. Liz
