How to Make Mini Draped Concrete Spooks

You may remember my original Concrete Step Spook โ€” that hauntingly fun Halloween project made from draped concrete and a glowing light inside. It quickly became a favourite here because it was simple, strong, and oh-so-spooky.

Now, Iโ€™ve taken that same idea and shrunk it down into a miniature version โ€” perfect for tabletop displays, smaller gardens, or front-step lanterns. And the best part? I’ve made my new eBook How to make Mini Draped Concrete Spooks, where I share the whole detailed process, the pattern, illustrated steps, tips, and finishing options.

Why Make Mini Spooks?

Sometimes, smaller is even more charming. These little ghosts are quick to make, use only a small amount of cement mix, and can be customized endlessly. The supplies are simple, I bet you have almost everything… Theyโ€™re perfect for adding a touch of handmade Halloween to your home or garden โ€” without taking up much space or storage!

I knew that one day I would make more spooks! These are much smaller than the famous original one. It is so popular that it’s images were constantly stolen.

Materials Youโ€™ll Need

  • Portland Cement or RapidSet CementAll
  • Small amount of fabric. (examples provided)
  • basic supplies to make the form according to my pattern.
  • A plastic sheet to protect your work surface
  • Rubber gloves, PPE, mixing cup, and stick for stirring
  • Optional: tiny LED lights, paint, sealer or moss for finishing details

Who likes to get a bit messy in the name of ‘Art’?! The concrete draping technique achieves such unique character in each one. This project uses easy accessible materials and simple methods, showing that concrete doesnโ€™t have to be grey or intimidating โ€” it can be creative, fun, and beautiful.

This Mini Step Spook is the main feature of this new eBook,
Itโ€™s filled with design tips, and my favourite technique for making sculptural pieces โ€” concrete draping.

If you have never tried this way of sculpting, it’s low cost and does not need a mold to pour.

Final Thoughts

Making these mini concrete spooks reminded me why I fell in love with this medium in the first place โ€” concrete is endlessly adaptable. Whether youโ€™re casting large garden sculptures (like mushrooms or Orbs) or tiny ghostly figures, youโ€™re shaping art that lasts.

Before you know it, you may have a few with friends! So check the shed for some mix, a scrap of cloth, and a spark of imagination โ€” and let your little ghouls come to life!

What do you think? ‘Should I make a complete large manual for all the draped concrete creations?

Crafting with Concrete has a lot of potential when you realize that big molds are not always needed. I have put together some of my tips to make the process easier. Keeping basic safety in mind working with concrete is much simpler than ceramics with no need for a kiln.

Here is the magic in this ‘muck’, ready to make permanence by sculpting with fibres.

Even though they have sat quietly on their stumps, they did manage to get ‘all over the world‘!

My large Spook waits all year for Halloween to come… He has lasted for 9 years in a Canadian garden!
