How to Make Your own Glue for Pennies
It’s not always about money, sometimes it is just convenience and simple ingredients (low toxicity). This homemade glue is amazing and comes together quick with what you already have at home!

Why Make your own Glue:
I first came upon the fact that you CAN make clay AND glue and at home when I made the Cold Porcelain Clay. It was a great way to craft with my little grandson and now I look to make my own clays before I buy more supplies!
It’s also perfect in the paper machรฉ clay recipe.

Extra-Strong Homemade Glue Recipe (Flour + Cornstarch)
Ingredients
- 1 cup water (cold)
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour (more flour = stronger bond)
- 2 teaspoons Cornstarch (for smoothness and reduced cracking)
- 2 teaspoons white Vinegar
- 2 teaspoons Sugar

Instructions
- Combine the Mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and cornstarch. Gradually add the cold water until you have a smooth, lump-free paste. Add the sugar and vinegar (natural preservative) - Cook the Glue
- Bring the mixture to a low boil in a small saucepan.
- Over low heat slowly stir & whisk your glue, breaking up lumps to prevent burning as mixture will thicken.
- Keep whisking continuously โ youโll see it thicken quite fast.
- Continue stirring for 4โ5 minutes to cook out the raw flour and strengthen the starch bond.
- Cool & Store
- Let cool to room temperature before using or storage.
- Store in a lidded airtight sealed container in the refrigerator. Will last about 1โ2 weeks shelf life.

Why This Oneโs Stronger
- Higher flour-to-water ratio โ denser glue film when dry
- Extra cooking time โ allows starches to fully gelatinize, making a tougher bond
- Cornstarch โ prevents brittleness, keeping it flexible after drying
- Vinegar โ Helps to prevent mold from growing
- Sugar โ binding, thickening and adds stickiness from the structure of glucose

Sometimes you just do not want to invest in more supplies or want to make a more natural glue.

Homemade clays are a perfect low cost way of being super creative. Another bonus is knowing what actually went into the clay. I have been so impressed with the strength and sculpting ability of this paper machรฉ clay.

Since the way you can sculpt over a form allows designs that can be quite lightweight. These Mushrooms are strong but an easy project
Uses
- Heavy papier-mรขchรฉ (masks, props, sculptural pieces)
- Fabric stiffening for costumes or dรฉcor
- Stronger paper bonding for bookbinding, cardboard and porous materials projects.

I like to be unconventional – so I made a DIY Faux rock Mirror from paper machรฉ clay. I love it so much and do not have to worry about the weight. Hmmm, what will I make next?!
This is a great glue for any kids’ projects due to the natural ingredients in this simple recipe with thick consistency.
